DSTV ordered to suspend new tariffs

The Federal government has ordered the immediate suspension of new tariffs by South African cable service provider, DSTV.

Armstrong Idachaba,  Acting Director General of Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, ordered the Digital Satellite Television to suspend its new tariffs on different bouquets for the benefit of all Nigerians.

This is coming after Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed disclosed the sports monopolizing rights of DSTV would be withdrawn.

Minister Lai and Idachaba made this known at the National Assembly where ad-hoc committee on Tariff Hike quizzed them about the new DSTV price template.

Idabacha was quoted saying “I want to agree, with the Committee and call on DSTV to suspend the hike in tariffs”

Meanwhile, Minister Lai Mohammed revealed plans were in place to withdraw the monopoly rights from Multichoice.

“Our amendments to the Broadcasting Act, will affect the break in the monopoly of MultiChoice. Amendments to Section 628 of the Broadcasting Act, is in our broad national interest.”
