Edo 2020: Fayose Warns Obaseki against Returning to APC after Victory

2 Min Read

After initially expressing his misgivings toward the ambition of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for a second term, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has warned the Edo state governor not to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after his victory in the Governorship election.

Obaseki had dumped the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after having a fall out with former national APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. This allegedly led to his disqualification from seeking a second term on the platform of the party.

The rivalry between the duo has generated a lot of political tension and near instability in the state as each party prepares for the September 19, Governorship election with verbal attacks and counter-attacks.

The crisis has also spread to the state House of Assembly as lawmakers have picked sides and attacked each other accordingly.

Commenting on the political drama in Edo State, Ayo Fasoye reiterated that although he is not fond of both parties, he believes Obaseki will be victorious in the forthcoming polls. He admonished the Governor not to abandon the PDP after his victory.

The former Governor said;

My position is that, for obvious reasons, I am not a fan of both Gov Obaseki and Oshiomhole. That notwithstanding, I believe that Obaseki will win, but he should honour his agreement with the PDP by not returning to APC after assuming office for the second term for flimsy excuses.
