Less than 48 hours after protests at the Government House over the killing of a pastor by suspected herdsmen, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday banned open grazing of cattle for 90 days in some communities in the state.

He said the 90-day period will be used to identify those lawfully allowed to graze cattle in the state to avert future attacks.

The affected communities include Odighi and Odiguete, in the Ovia North -East Local Government Area of the state .

Obaseki equally ordered security operatives to arrest any herdsmen caught flouting the order.

Recall that members of Odighi community had protested on Friday over herdsmen attacks and deposited the coffin of a pastor, Pius Eromosele, who was suspected to have been slain by herdsmen, at the entrance of the Government House in Benin.

The remains of Eromosele, of the Church of God Mission, were said to have been found decomposing in a bush on April 2.
