Ekiti Loses Over 200 Houses To Rainstorm

200 houses or more have been allegedly destroyed in Ekiti by rainstorms in the last two months.

Mr. Jide Borode the General Manager, State Emergency Management Agency who delivered a speech in Ado Ekiti, said the disaster mainly affected four local government areas of the state.

He expressed sadness at the effects of the rainstorms and the loss suffered by those whose houses have been destroyed by the rain.

Borode, noted that we should also be grateful to God for the fact that there were no deaths.

The affected communities include Ado metropolis, Emure, Ise and Erinjiyan, in the Ekiti West LGA of the state where he estimated the damage to run into hundreds of millions of naira.

Borode stated that the damage was to widespread for Ekiti state government to handle alone and called on the Federal Government and the National Emergency Management Agency to come to their aid.

Also he told people in the state to avoid building houses in flood-prone areas, adding that the best period to acquire land was during the rainy season when flood prone-areas could be easily identified.
