Super Eagles captain and long-serving goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has lost his mother.

The 33-year-old LOSC Lille player, in an Instagram post, attributed his pulling out of the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Tanzania to this reason.

Apologizing to Nigerians for his decision not to travel with the team, Enyeama said “So sorry I won’t make it out there to wear this shirt.”

“So sorry that I won’t be standing there singing the anthem of my sweet NIGERIA. #WEARENIGERIA.

“I wish that this darkness didn’t come in daylight. I wish that I could turn back the hand of time. I wish, I just wish that I could take away this pain. Let the rain wash away this pain,” the player stated.

The 33-year-old is Nigeria’s most-capped player, having donned the green-white-green jersey consistently since keeping a clean sheet against England in the Super Eagles third match of the group stage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
