Estate agent docked for cheating

The police on Wednesday in Abuja arraigned Victor Emeka, a 40-year-old estate agent, on charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Emeka was docked at a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court, FCT, Abuja.

The prosecutor, Margaret Nwosu, told the court that one Maryam Ahmadu of the Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse police station on March 23.

She said the complainant gave the defendant N500,000 to purchase a plot of land for her at Kabusa, FCT sometime in May 2015,
but that the accused converted the money to his personal use and fled to an unknown destination.

She said that the accused also changed his phone number and kept on avoiding the complainant.

She said the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the penal code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Usman Shuaibu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000, with a reliable surety, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Shuaibu adjourned till April 27for hearing. (NAN)
