Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, is mourning the loss of his father, Coach Phillip Enyeama, who passed away at an old age.

Vincent Enyeama shared the news through a heartfelt tribute posted on his Instagram account on Saturday.

In the tribute, accompanied by a video of Vincent and his late father playing table tennis, the retired goalkeeper expressed gratitude for a life well spent.

He spoke about his father’s selflessness, generosity, and the pivotal role he played in the success of many individuals.

“To God be the glory for a life well spent. You were the reason a lot of people achieved what they achieved. You were selfless and generous. You stood in for many, you fought for many to achieve their dreams,” Vincent Enyeama wrote.

“I am proud to have been fathered by you. It’s a series. Your number was called. Farewell. God rest your soul in peace.”

Coach Phillip Enyeama, aside from his coaching career, played an important role in nurturing Vincent Enyeama into becoming one of Africa’s most celebrated goalkeepers.

This marks another moment of grief for Vincent Enyeama, as his mother had previously passed away in 2015.

Menwhile, Enyeama received an honorary doctorate award from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in November 2023.

Enyeama expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and his team for the honorable award, thanking his wife, family, fans, and supporters for their unwavering support.

“I want to thank the University of Uyo’s Vice-Chancellor and his team for conferring me with this great honorable award. God bless you, sir,” he shared on Instagram.

“I want to thank my wife #promisevincent, she has really been the bone from my ribs. God bless you and your family. I want to thank my family for always standing by me no matter the circumstances. To my fans and supporters, I love you guys. Thank you. A new title has been added to me. This is the Lord’s doing.”
