American billionaire philanthropist, Bill Gates and wife, Melinda shocked the world on Monday when they announced they were getting a divorce after 27 years of marriage.
Since the announcement, a lot of media attention has been focused on the estranged couple and the time they spent together.
It thus emerged that while married to Melinda, Bill and his ex-girlfriend, Ann Winblad enjoyed a “long weekend” at an Outer Banks, North Carolina beach house for more than a decade.
Ann, 70, and Bill, 65, dated but broke up in 1987, the same year that he met Melinda, 56.
He told Time magazine in 1997 that the yearly weekend getaway was part of an “arrangement” he had with his wife.
The modest 1,440 sq ft property, which is now on rental for $600 a day, boasts of four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a gazebo, and a private pathway to the beach.
During their weekend rendezvous, Bill and Ann spent their time riding dune buggies, hang-gliding and taking walks on the beach.
