Fashola’s N300 million borehole and other items in #budgetofcorruption

Minister for Power and Infrastructure, Tunde Fashola is no stranger to controversy over frivolous spending of public funds on government projects.

As Governor of Lagos State, he notoriously spent N80 million for the design of a single website bearing his own name.

As Governor of the Centre of Excellence, it was also widely reported that Fashola spent N139 million on two boreholes.

According to details in the 2016 budget of the Federal government, Fashola’s ministry will spend N300 million on the construction of two boreholes.

The Ministry of Works, Power and Housing proposed to spend N140,000,000 for the construction of a single solar borehole, and N161,500,000 for the construction of a motorised borehole.

Other details from the budget widely touted as “Budget of Corruption” by disillusioned Nigerians see the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo spending N4.9 million on books, whilst 11 Polytechnics in the country are expected to manage N3.8 million on books.

The State House Clinic which is only accessible by key government officials in Abuja has a budget of N3.9 billion whilst only N2,666,853,303 was proposed in the budget for the construction of hospitals nationwide.

N3.9 billion was also earmarked for maintenance of Aso Villa in 2016 which brings the daily spend to over N10 million on maintenance for the Villa.
