The British Prime minister who is primed to receive delegates from nations around the world for an anti-corruption forum may have made a bit of a faux pax when he was caught on camera calling Nigeria a corrupt nation according to the Independent.

Mr Cameron could be heard singling out Nigeria as well as Afghanistan as “possibly the two most corrupt countries in the world”, in footage on ITV News showing him chatting in a group including the Archbishop of Canterbury and Commons Speaker John Bercow.

According to the Independent, David Cameron said to the Queen “We had a very successful cabinet meeting this morning to talk about our anti-corruption summit, we’ve got the Nigerians… actually we’ve got the leaders of some fantastically corrupt countries coming to Britain.

“Nigeria and Afghanistan, possibly the two most corrupt countries in the world.”

The Archbishop The Most Rev Justin Welby did try to defend Nigeria stating that Buhari himself was not corrupt.

According to the Independent, a spokesperson for the Prime minister has declined to comment on the matter but he did note that both leaders (Buhari and Ashraf Ghani for Afghanistan)  had accepted and spoken on their countries’ shortcomings.
