The Enugu State command of the Nigeria Police Force through its operatives of the state criminal and investigation Department,SCID, has commenced a full scale investigations into a case of alleged conspiracy and fraud  to the tune of Two hundred and thirty million, two hundred and forty-five thousand naira (230,245,000.00) against one Mrs. Ethel Nebo Ezeabasili ,former Chairman, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board,ENSUBEB,.

It was gathered that the former chairman between the month of September-October,2012 conspired with others and allegedly defrauded Government the sum of Two hundred and thirty million, two hundred and forty-five thousand naira.

Investigation further revealed that the alleged fraud happened in the course of an alleged award of a contract which is viewed not to have involved ENSUBEB board members who were supposed to be members of the tender board whose duty it is to recommend procurement and contracts. The process was deemed to be fraught with irregularities given that due process was not followed.

She is also being alleged of using more than two company names and that some of the contractors got the alleged contract through her without biding evidence and that contractors involved could not be traced hence the suspicion that the transactions were handled by the chairman.

Based on the foregoing, a written complaint was made against the former chairman of ENSUBEB alleging  fraudulent activities in her stewardship while calling for investigation by security operatives.

Some suspects has been arrested in connection with the alleged crime and they are helping the police in their investigations just as the former chairman of ENSUBEB has made useful statement to the operatives and suspects are yet to produce any valid document to buttress the award of contract neither has the former chairman presented any valid document regarding the award of the alleged contract.
A source at the ENSUBEB revealed that the alleged contract award did not follow due process and that some of the alleged individuals/companies appeared to be cronies of former  ENSUBEB chief Executives.
