The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar is currently enmeshed in controversy after a video showing him assaulting a security guard circulated on social media.

Information provided by the narrator showed that the incident occurred inside the popular Banex Plaza, Abuja.

It was learnt that the altercation ensued following a disagreement over parking space.

The video, which is five minutes long, shows as Umar kicked and slapped the unidentified security guard as policemen attached to the CCT Chairman tried to prevent him from further assaulting the security guard.

A crowd milling around, appearing disgusted by Umar’s behaviour, warned him to leave the security guard alone and go to his car.

The narrator, who spoke as he filmed, also spoke against the CCT Chairman’s action, saying: “You are not the most powerful person here, they will beat you here”.

The narrator later disclosed that the mirror of Umar’s SUV was smashed, although he did not state who he did it.

The policemen later succeeded in getting the CCT Chairman to go inside his vehicle.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesman of the CCT, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, denied that his boss assaulted the security guard.

He said Umar was the one assaulted, in spite of video evidence to the contrary.

Al-Hassan claimed that the crowd assaulted his boss, adding that Umar could have been lynched by the crowd but for the intervention of “the policemen in the neighbourhood who came to rescue him”.

He said that the policemen were assisted by their colleagues from Maitama Police Station.

The CCT spokesman noted that his boss did not go to the plaza with security detail but only his driver.
