A young lady who currently studies at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Ondo State has accused police officers of trying to sexually abuse her – a move she vehemently kicked against.

However, her refusal subsequently led to a physical assault by the men. She is said to have been badly battered and had to be taken to the hospital after suffering several injuries on her face and other parts of her body.

Reports revealed that the victim who has been identified as Sheba Ogbu, was on her way back from one of the churches out the FUTA campus around 10 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2019, before she was stopped by the officers.

Afterward, they began to search her bag for incriminating objects or substances but as soon as they realized she had nothing to use against her, they immediately changed their game plan and began to throw passes at the young lady.

The FUTA student further stated that after frowning at their actions, one of the security men hit her with a stone on the head.

While her family members have threatened to sue the Police Force, the spokesperson for Police Force in the state, Femi Joseph, has revealed that the case was reported to have been between some policemen and two drunk persons who refused to be checked. As a result, one of the FUTA students was pushed by an officer, hence the injuries sustained.

Femi stated, “The students were stopped by the policemen on patrol on Sunday night, and when they were asked to open the bag they held, they refused, that was what caused an argument between them, leading to one of them to slightly push the lady. But because the lady was drunk, she fell down and got injured.

“In spite of that, as I am speaking with you now, the policeman in question has been arrested and will face trial today ( Tuesday). He would definitely be punished. ”
