Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has said no person or group of persons can turn Nigeria into Islamic or Christian state.

Speaking during a vacation course organised by the Muslim Students Society of Nigerian (MSSN), for the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja in Gusau, Zamfara State, the traditional ruler maintained that the country was arranged in such a way to accomodate both Muslims and Christians.

According to him, for the past 100 years, Nigerians had been co-habiting as citizens of a country, adding that since then, millions of Nigerians had migrated to states of their choices other than their states of origin.

He contended that the present reality would make it impossible for anybody or group to turn the country to a religious state.

The traditional ruler called on the Muslim faithful to guard their utterances, adidng that “sometimes, unguarded utterances could ignite crisis.”

He also counselled them to live in peace with their neighbours, irrespective of religious affiliations.

He also admonished participants to make use of what they learned during the course, adding that the essence of the programme was to instill moral virtues and the fear of Allah in the youth.
