Gunmen abduct Catholic priest in Kaduna

Armed bandits whisked away a Catholic priest, Rev. John Bako Shekwolo in Kaduna, yesterday.

The incident is said to have occurred around Kachia Local Government Area of the state and has since been confirmed by the Police Command in the state.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna has called on all well-wishers in the state to pray for safety and quick release of the kidnapped priest.

In its reaction, the Kaduna chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, vehemently condemned the incidence and called on the Federal Government to speedily bring the culprits to book and pay more attention to the security challenges that have plagued the state in recent times.

Equally, the Chancellor of Kaduna Archdiocese, Rev. Father Daniel Kyom, stated that he hopes that the priest gets his freedom without being harmed in any way.

He said, “As we ask for prayers of the faithful of the Archdiocese and beyond for quick release of Rev. Shekwolo, we appeal to the conscience of those who abducted him to kindly release him unharmed.”

According to the police public relations officer in the state, DSP Yakubu, Priest Shekwolo was abducted around 8 pm by some yet to be identified persons and police officers have been deployed to conduct thorough searches around the village where the incident occurred.

He said, “A team of policemen led by the Kachia Divisional Police Officer, Police Mobile Force personnel and operatives from the command Anti-Kidnapping Unit were promptly mobilised to the village with a view to combing the general area for possible rescue of the victim and arresting the criminals.”
