‘Herdsmen’ Killings: Benue Loses 6 School Teachers In One Day

Six Benue teachers have been reported killed by suspected herdsmen near Ikpayongo, Gwer LGA of the state.

According to The Sun, the incident occurred last Wednesday as the teachers, numbering about ten, went to the area as members of a cooperative society to inspect land to be used for rice farming.

The teachers were said to be from Makurdi Local Government Education Authority (LGEA).

The suspected herdsmen, who were reportedly armed, encountered the team and immediately opened fire.

Six of the teachers were reported killed on the spot while four managed to escape.

The remains of the deceased were also reportedly dismembered by the suspected herdsmen.

Some of the deceased teachers were identified as Mr. Stephen Tavaku, the Head Teacher of St. Mary’s Primary School, North Bank, Makurdi and Mr Christian Anankpa, a PhD student of ABU, Zaria, who was the Basic Science Teacher at St. Mary’s UBE Junior Secondary School, North Bank, Makurdi.
