Hotel drags man to court for refusing to pay N573, 000 accommodation, food bills

A 47-year-old businessman, Felix Omotehinse, on Thursday appeared in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo for allegedly defrauding a hotel of N573,000.

The police charged Omotehinse, whose address was not given with fraud.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha,  told the court that the defendant on Sept. 4, 2018 around 10 a.m at Bako Hotel in Okitipupa, accumulated a hotel bill of N416.000.

Omoyeigha said that, the defendant also bought drinks and food in the hotel totaling N157, 000.

He said the defendant gave his Toyota Camry with registration number: PortHarcourt KKK 566 TV as collateral to the hotel manager, Ms Gift Nnaji with a promise to pay his debt on a layer date,

The prosecution said the offence was contrary and punishable under Section 419 (A), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, and Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with a surety in like sum.

Ogunfuyi ordered that the surety must show evidence of  one year tax clearance paid to the state government.

He adjourned the case until July 5 for further hearing.
