A 14-year-old yoghurt seller identified simply as Jumoke has been killed near the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, Lagos, where Yoruba Nation agitators are currently protesting.

Jumoke, witnesses said, was killed by a stray bullet fired by a security agent in his bid to forcibly disperse the protesters.

The victim was said to be in a nearby shop displaying her wares when she was hit.

Reports say the girl’s stomach was ripped open by the bullet.

However, the police denied firing live ammunition at protesters during the rally.

The Herald had reported that security agents fired gunshots into the air, released teargas and used water cannons in a bid to break up the protest.

The Yoruba nation agitators, some of whom wore colourful African cultural attire, began chanting separatist songs late Saturday morning.

The chants commenced as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu was addressing the media.
