A former Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe has commended the change of government in South Africa, saying the change would help strengthen democracy on the African continent.
He made this known in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday.
Okupe said democracy in the African continent would be strengthened if parties were made superior to elected officials.
He called for an amendment to the constitutions of political parties to correct this “political anomaly”.
Okupe said, “Lessons from Zuma’s resignation: We kill democracy by making Presidents,Govs leaders of d parties. Party leadership must be above elected officials. All serious political parties must amend their constitutions to correct this political anomaly.”
Zuma resigned on Wednesday after the leadership of his party, African National Congress (ANC), instructed him to step down and on the eve of a no-confidence vote.
