The senator representing Kaduna North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi, has declared his 2019 governorship ambition under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Hunkuyi declared his governorship ambition in Zango Kataf, one of the 11 local government areas under Southern Kaduna, on Friday.

Addressing leaders from the 11 LGAs, he said it was time to boot “the short man from government house” and return Kaduna to its past glory.

He pledged to address some burning issues created by the el-Rufai administration.

Some of the issues Hunkuyi said the state government under him would address include the reconstitution of the 4,766 district and village heads sacked by el-Rufai and review of the 25,000 state teachers and their LGA colleagues sacked by the el-Rufai administration.

He said he would reinstate the district and village heads because democracy was designed to serve the people.

The senator disclosed that the PDP delegates from the 11 LGAs in Southern Kaduna – Sanga, Lere, Jabba, Kagarko, Jemaa, Zango Kataf, Kauru, Kachia, Chikun, Kaura and Kajuru – would determine the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

He said that since all the 10 aspirants contesting for the ticket were from Northern Kaduna, the South had a unique advantage to determine the winner.

However, he urged the party’s delegates against handing the gubernatorial ticket to someone who could not stand up to el-Rufai.

Hunkuyi noted, “El-rufai knows that the moment I get the ticket his days in the government House are numbered. He knows the damage I can wreck on his ambition. This is why they are sponsoring every Tom, Dick and Harry to cause confusion in our party. The people of this zone must ensure there is no by- election.

“I must sound this note of warning to the delegates that it would be sad to boot out El-rufai without a proper arrangement of who to replace him. We must be sure we send only some one who knows how to redress the humongous challenges on ground in the state government.”

Speaking further, Hunkuyi said, “In the name of God and you the people I hereby declare to lead the charge to boot out the Short man from Government House.

“I want to assure you that we are going to hastily redress the many wrongs of this government.

“Within one week of my government I will return the dethroned traditional rulers back to their thrones. But, you must know that you have a role to play by mobilising your people.

“Secondly, we are aware that some people were sacked from their jobs without due process. Although, I may not promise to return everyone back to his job but we will ensure that the right thing is done by returning those who were unjustly sacked.”
