Illegal detention: First Lady Aisha Buhari sued for N100m

A former Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the First Lady, Zainab Kassim, has sued her principal, Aisha Buhari, for illegal detention and assault.

In a fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed at the Federal High Court, Kassim is demanding N100 million in damages from the First Lady and two other respondents.

The Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) are joined as co-respondents in the suit with number: FHC/ABJ/OS/202/2023.

The claimant alleged that some DSS personnel acting on the orders of the First Lady abducted her and took her to the Presidential Villa, where she was severely assaulted, dehumanised and abused.

She further claimed that the assault was carried out with the support of officers of the DSS and police for deleting her posts on social media.

Kassim is asking the court to declare her arrest and detention unlawful.

The case has yet to be assigned to a judge.

The spokesperson for the First Lady, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, has not reacted to the suit.
