Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, has reacted to reports that the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has gone missing in detention.

In a Friday statement he titled, “Important clarification,” Ejiofor said it was not true.

Affirming that Kanu remained in detention, the lawyer dismissed an audio recording alleging the IPOB leader was nowhere to be found.

Ejiofor said that the audio clip was being circulated and promoted by “enemies of our people”.

He added that Kanu was in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he visited him on Thursday.

“Please UMUCHINEKE, kindly ignore the audio message being mischievously promoted/circulated by the enemies of our people, to the effect that ONYENDU MAZI NNAMDI KANU is missing in DSS facility.

“The information is fake, a blatant lie and should be totally ignored by Ezigbo UMUCHINEKE.

“As a matter of fact, court-ordered routine visit was conducted yesterday and ONYENDU spent time with those that visited him.

“Thank you and God bless. Always keep your eyes on the ball,” Ejiofor’s statement read.

Reports of Kanu’s purported disappearance surfaced after the IPOB claimed that it was aware of a plot to attack its leader in custody.

In a statement signed by its Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful after the infamous Kuje jailbreak, IPOB said it should not be held responsible for the consequences of any attack on Kanu in DSS custody.

The group berated the Federal Government of Nigeria over the spate of attacks on prisons in the country, saying it was a sign of a failed nation.

“The world should take note because if anything untoward happens to our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu…in the DSS custody, nobody should blame IPOB for inevitable and uncontrollable boundless calamitous consequences that would befall anyone.

“Know it that your silence hardens our conscience towards the pursuit of this great nation called Biafra. IPOB needs the unconditional release of our leader because there is no prison in the South that is safe for him. Therefore, we still need him released unconditionally to avoid dangerous terms IPOB may take against Nigeria,” Powerful’s statement read in part.
