Ivanka Trump Fumes over Serena Williams’ Seeding Situation

2 Min Read

After the news broke that former number 1 Serena Williams would have to compete in the French Open but as an unseeded challenger, many were infuriated by the decision calling it unjust and unfair to women.

A famous voice has joined the cacophony as Ivanka Trump has also weighed in on the matter, slamming the WTA over its rules.

The first daughter called on WTA officials to change rules to allow Williams to be seeded as the former world number one continues her comeback following time off to give birth to her first child.

Ivanka Trump took to Twitter to voice her concerns saying: “This is ridiculous,

“@SerenaWilliams is a formidable athlete (best ever!) and loving new mother.

“No person should ever be penalized professionally for having a child! The #WTA should change this rule immediately. #FrenchOpen.”

The Former number one lost her place while she was away from the game caring for her daughter and is now ranked a lowly 453.

This will be her first Grand Slam since her victory at the 2017 Australian Open, after which she stepped off the tour to give birth to her daughter in September.

While it was debated whether Williams should be given preferential treatment due to her circumstances, it was finally ruled that she would be kept in her position and that the seedings would reflect the latest WTA rankings.
