Jenni Hermoso Back In Spain Squad After Rubiales Kiss Scandal

1 Min Read

Jenni Hermoso is back in the Spain squad for the first time since helping the team win the World Cup in the August 20 final in Sydney and subsequent Luis Rubiales kiss scandal.

The Herald recalls that Hermoso was kissed on the lips during the medal ceremony by then Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales, which she said was not consensual.

The kiss sparked a chain of events that included Rubiales and World Cup-winning manager Jorge Vilda leaving their posts.

Rubiales was also given a restraining order after Hermoso filed a legal complaint.

The 33-year-old, who has made 101 appearances for Spain and scored 51 goals,  told prosecutors that she felt “disrespected” as a player and a person and that her image has been tarnished by the Spanish football federation (RFEF).

Spain did not invite her for their matches against Sweden and Switzerland in September. But she is now back in the fold as part of the squad for Nations League matches against Italy and Switzerland on October 27 and 31.
