The cousin to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Azibola Roberts, who was remanded into Kuje prison, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court.

The bail was set at N500m along with a demand for two sureties who must own landed property in Abuja.

According to thecable, the judge,  Nnamdi Dimgba said Roberts was entitled to bail as he hadn’t been proven guilty.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier arraigned Azibaola and his wife on alleged diversion of $40m through One Plus Holdings; a company the accused allegedly owns.

The accused pled not guilty to the charges brought against him. Prosecution counsel had prayed the court that trial should begin but Roberts’ legal team told the court that a bail application was pending.

The judge granted bail but on the condition that they remain in custody until the bail conditions are met.
