Joseph Yobo denies Arsenal move

Ex Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has denied being in talks with English Premier League side Arsenal over a move to the club.

Reports had earlier suggested that the former Fernerbahce star who became a free agent after a mutual termination of his contract at the Turkish club is on a permanent move to Arsenal.

“I read Arsenal was interested in me; it was news to me,” Yobo told The Independent.

“If negotiations are taking place, I am not aware. Maybe the club is talking with my agent. There is no formal contact with anybody”

Yobo was linked with a move to Arsenal in the past, but committed to Everton where he was consistent all through his deal at the club.

Confirming being on the radar of Arsene Wenger, the International football retiree said:

“I know Arsene Wenger admires me a lot and wanted me to replace Sol Campbell some years ago, but Everton blocked the move.

“He wanted me to partner Kolo Toure in defence; I was younger then.”
