The Kano State Government has pledged to continue to improve girl-child education.
The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, made the pledge during a programme at Africa House in Kano on Thursday.
Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, Ganduje said the Kano State Government had already included a Summer Camp
programme in its 2017 budget to continue to promote enrollment and retention of girls in the School system.
He said that Kano State, in collaboration with the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN), trained some teachers through its Teaching Skill Programme who would in turn train other teachers and head teachers in literacy and numeracy across the 44 local government areas of the state.
In his remark, the Regional Manager of ESSPIN, Mr Jake Rose, said the mission of the programme was to ensure that millions of children, including girls, attend schools with teachers who have the skill and knowledge to teach literacy and numeracy competently.
Rose, however, said “the conclusion of ESSPIN programmes does not mean the end of efforts to improve schools, as the Kano State Government will continue from where we stop.” (NAN)
