Katsina to build houses for three district heads with N75 million

The Baure Local Government of Katsina State has earmarked N75 million for the construction of residential buildings for three district heads as part of efforts to make traditional rulers comfortable.

Alhaji Salisu Suleiman, the council chairman made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Baure on Wednesday.

He said the three district heads houses would be constructed at Yanduna, Yammolu and Hui districts in the council area.

The council boss stressed the need to provide comfortable and spacious accommodation for traditional rulers in the area.

He said the N25 million of the amount would be spent in the construction and provision of the necessary furniture in the three houses, adding that the contractors would soon be mobilised to site for timely completion of the houses.

The chairman told NAN that in the bid to promote education and complement state government efforts in education, the council has spent N60 million to renovate Government Day Secondary School, Garki in the area.

He said the classes were fully renovated, while new roofs, doors and other necessary furniture were provided.

Suleiman promised that the council would continue to embark on project to complement services towards improving standard of living of the people, saying “education remains the bedrock of development of the society.”

He added that the council had constructed 19 km of feeder roads to ease movement of the people as well as to open up the rural communities for easy transportation of agricultural produce from remote areas to the urban centres.

The chairman said the roads were the 12km Maibara-Kawarin gyada-Mai makwami to Aya road and 200 meter stretched of water ways in Babban mutum district in the area, saying that the council was committed and determined to provide dividends of democracy to the people.

Suleiman said that the council in the last six months provided medical assistance to 60 indigent people in the area.

He explained that some of the beneficiaries received cash assistance of between N200,000 and 50,000 depending on the severity of an individual patient ailment and medical prescription and diagnosis.

The council boss added that no fewer than 200 indigent students studying various courses in the tertiary institutions were provided with a token amount of between N10,000 for those studying science based courses and N5,000 for Arts students.

The chairman commended the state government for prompt release of development fund to the area, which has enabled it to execute series of projects to the happiness of the people of the area.

NAN reports that the Baure Local Government Area of Katsina state had earlier procured and installed 25 water pumping machines and repaired 75 boreholes to boost water supply to people in the area.(NAN}
