A Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi on Thursday, ordered that a 22-year-old farmer, Aondona Angur, who allegedly killed his 2-year-old son, be remanded in a Federal Correctional Centre, pending legal advice.

Magistrate Erdoo Ter did not take the plea of Angur, for want of jurisdiction.

She ordered the police to return the case file to the Benue Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Ter adjourned the case until March 4, for further mention.

The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Regina Ishaya told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 11, by one Sechivir Aondona of opposite Moor Primary School, Vandeikya, Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state.

Ishaya alleged that Angur beat up her two-year-old son.

The prosecutor said the child died while receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Vandeikya, Benue.

She said the farmer was arrested and during the investigation, he confessed to committing the crime.

Ishaya said the investigation into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for another date for mention.

She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue, 2004.
