Less than a month after the inauguration of Yahaya Bello as Executive Governor of Kogi State, the House of Assembly in the state has impeached its Speaker, Momoh Jimoh Lawal.

Lawal was impeached on Tuesday, alongside Majority Leader, Kolawole Matthew, and Deputy Speaker, Alih Ajuh, Vanguard reports.

The Speaker was impeached because he ran the House like a sole proprietor, said new Majority Leader, Friday Sani Makama.

He added that since the Governor and the Speaker were from the same senatorial distriict, it was only normal for the speaker to vacate his seat.

However, in his response, Lawal described his purported impeachment as a “kangaroo” arrangement.

This is the third time Lawal will be impeached as a Speaker, with the exercise failing on the two previous occasions.

Hon. Umar Imam Alfa has been chosen to replace Lawal.
