The Lagos State Government has announced the isolation of 6 more persons suspected to have the Coronavirus.

The six persons include a family of four and their teacher who just got back from the United States.

They were isolated on arrival at the Biosecurity Facility of the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.

Prof. akin Abayomi, the Lagos State Health Commissioner stated that the children in isolation as well as their teacher had been in close proximity to someone who was infected with the Coronavirus.

He however noted that the initial testing on them came back negative. But they were still being kept so that a confirmation test will be carried out.

Speaking further, Prof. Abayomi also announced that a recent returnee from the UK had also been isolated for suspected COVID 19 infection. A test is being carried out to determine his status.

The Health Commissioner also told newsmen that three suspected COVID 19 cases from France, UK and China tested negative and have been discharged from Hospital.

He said further that the index case who came in from Italy is already responding well to treatment.

The commissioner explained that the viral load of the Italian was reducing significantly and he had shown no further symptoms of the virus. However, he will not be released until he is fully cured.
“The index case is gradually recovering but we need to carry out more tests on him just to be sure of his status and if the virus is undetectable, we will repeat the test a few more times and discharge him afterward”, he said.

Speaking about the second confirmed Coronavirus case, the health Commissioner also noted that he was improving but showing minor symptoms of the virus.
“We have given him drugs to slow down the virus and we hope his immune system will resist the virus and we will continue to keep him until he is no longer contagious”, he said.

He therefore advised the public to continue to observe environmental and personal hygiene by regular washing of hands with soap and clean running water.
