Leicester City’s forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has issued a warning to Liverpool ahead of their Carabao Cup third-round match at Anfield.

The Herald understands that while Liverpool is seen as the favorite in the encounter, Iheanacho vows to lead Leicester City to a competitive performance.

In a statement to the club’s official website, the Nigerian international expressed excitement about the upcoming match, acknowledging the tough atmosphere at Anfield.

However, he emphasized that Leicester City won’t be there for the feel; but to compete and give Liverpool a tough challenge.

“We’re excited,” Iheanacho stated. “We know what Anfield is like. It’s a great atmosphere there. We’re not going there for the atmosphere; we’re going there to compete.”

Reflecting on their pre-season encounter with Liverpool and Leicester’s current form, Iheanacho added, “We played them in pre-season, and we’re in a good place now. We’re winning games. It’s a cup game, but we know what they’re like. They’re a strong side; they’ve been doing well this season in the Premier League.”

Recognizing Liverpool’s strengths, Iheanacho acknowledged the need for Leicester to work hard to secure a victory. He noted Liverpool’s pressing style as a challenge they must be cautious of.

“They press really well. We have to be careful of that as well,” Iheanacho warned. “We’ll try to give them a game, but we know they’re a strong side.”

Leicester City is currently top of the table in the Sky Bet Championship. They have had an impressive start to the new season, winning seven out of eight league fixtures, and have also progressed in the Carabao Cup, winning Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers.

On the other hand, Liverpool, under Jürgen Klopp’s leadership, has also enjoyed a successful run, winning their last six matches across all competitions and securing the second spot in the Premier League, with only two points behind league defenders Manchester City.
