Leicester falls behind Man City as Burnley secures victory from the dead

Burnley secured a first win in five games against unlikely opponents on Sunday when they came from behind to Leicester City by 2-1.

Harvey Barnes 33rd minute goal gave the visitors the lead which they held onto into the break.

Burnley were a different side in the second half as two ‘Woods’ gave the home side what their manager has remarked is a “well deserved” victory.

Chris Wood poked in his ninth league goal of the season after Ben Mee nodded into his path from a corner in the 56th minute before Ashley Westwood’s screamer in the 79th minute completed the perfect turn around for the Clarets.

Things could have gone south when Jamie Vardy faced Nick Pope to take a penalty awarded the visitors in the game but the goalkeeper pulled off an amazing save to deny the prolific Vardy adding the perfect climax to what is a great come-back story.

Burnley’s manager Sean Dyche said;

 “We’re really pleased. It was a deserved win in different ways. We had some question marks around us recently, which is kind of a backhanded compliment. There was a big sign of moving forward with that performance.

“We know what we are about and we reminded the group of that this week. But there was good play today. We asked different questions. The performance was important to me as a manager, not just the win.”

The win raises Burnley to 14th position while for Leicester the loss means they trail Manchester City by 3 points who still have the advantage of a huge goals difference over them. Leicester have now lost 4 games of the last 6.

Burnley’s goalkeeper Nick Pope was the Man of the Match.
