Man remanded in prison over alleged attempted rape

A Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano on Monday ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Stephen Obede, for allegedly attempting to rape 14-year-old girl.

The accused, who resides at Kabuga Quarters, Kano, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on Criminal Conspiracy, attempt to committ an offence to wit rape and causing hurt.

The Police prosecutor, Insp. Yusuf Sale, had told the court on June 3 that one Akinyemi Ilesammi reported the case at Rijiyar Zaki police Division Kano.

Sale said that on the same date the accused conspired with one Ikine Pius,  now at large, attacked and attempted to rape the complainant’s 14-year-old daughter.

He said that during the attack, the complainant tried to rescue his daughter and in the process the accused inflicted various degrees of injuries on his neck and back.

According to the Prosecutor, the offences contravened section 96, 231 and 241 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded guilty to the second charge and not guilty to the first and third charges respectively.

The Senior Magistrate, Aminu Fagge ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody and adjourned the case until July 2, for ruling of bail application.(NAN)
