It’s safe to say there are few fans more passionate about their national team than former World Cup winner, Diego Maradona.

The Argentina legend could be seen during the game against Nigeria screaming, gesticulating and so on while Argentina fought to unlock the Nigerian defence.

They were eventually successful and the scenes were wild.

After Marcos Rojo put the ball in the net, Maradona could be seen going completely wild as he celebrated including a middle finger gesture to the crowd, so effusive was his celebration.

The legend did have to be attended to by Russian paramedics after he collapsed due to the celebrations, he was reportedly taken to the hospital afterwards.

According to the Independent, however, there were claims, that the 56-year-old was actually only treated in the stadium and was not taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, there have been some reactions trailing Maradona’s less-than-normal celebrations especially from Gary Lineker who felt that he had made himself a laughing stock.

“There’s Diego Maradona celebrating,” said Lineker. “I think he might make the papers for a different kind of celebration, there’s a danger he’s becoming a laughing stock I’m afraid.

“[He’s] let himself down with that celebration. You understand how he’s euphoric, but this kind of reaction… Really, Diego?”
