A former Niger state governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu has countered the president, Muhammadu Buhari’s stand on the place of women in the house.

Recall that Buhari had some weeks ago while in Germany said that his wife, Aisha Buhari belongs to his kitchen, living room and other room.

The president’s statement came after the first lady granted an explosive interview with BBC Hausa Service in which she criticized the Buhari-led administration which she revealed had been hijacked by some cabals.

In reaction to the controversial statement, the former Niger state governor said “men also belong there [the kitchen].”

Speaking further at the annual lecture series organised by Newgate College of Technology, Babangida Aliyu who made his stand known in Minna, the Niger State capital said: “Looking at the issue critically, and in Islamic terms, it is actually the man that should be in the kitchen as provided for in the Holy Quran.”

He added: “The woman should only be in the ‘inner room,’ while the men should provide all the needs of the woman, including making purchases from the market for the use of the family. Islam does not permit women to go out indiscriminately, as they are supposed to be in the house taking care of the children.”
