Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil has sparked outrage on Twitter by naming his dream football team and omitting six-time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi.

The 31-year-old German named the team on Twitter while responding to a question during his #AskMesut session, where he randomly responds to questions from fans.

A Twitter user, @Fassdo, asked: What is @MesutOzil1088 ‘s dream XI?

Adopting a 4-2-3-1 formation, he named his dream goalkeeper as Iker Casillas, the legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper who later moved to FC Porto.

In the right full-back position, he named fellow German, Philip Lahm, and former Real Madrid teammate, Marcelo in the left full-back position.

Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos and Bayern Munich star, Jerome Boateng were Ozil’s choices for the centre back positions.

He opted for a two-man defensive midfield pairing of Xabi Alonso, who found fame in Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as former Arsenal star, Santi Cazorla.

Ozil picked the trio of Angel Di Maria, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, who all played for Real Madrid, in his attacking midfield positions.

He also settled for Real Madrid’s striker and former teammate, Karim Benzema, for the centre forward position.

But many of the player’s followers disagreed with the list, and suggested replacements.

Another fan, @IMUKHTY berated the star for omitting Barcelona legend, Lionel Messi from the list.
