Renowned Mexican actor Adan Canto, recognized for his roles in “Designated Survivor” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” has sadly lost his life at the age of 42 following a courageous fight against appendiceal cancer. The actor’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed Canto’s demise on Monday.

Adan Canto, born in Mexico and raised in Texas, left an indelible mark with his portrayal of the pyrokinetic mutant Sunspot in the 2014 film “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” The movie, featuring stellar performances alongside Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Hugh Jackman, earned an Oscar nomination for best achievement in visual effects in 2015.

Initiating his career at the age of 16, Canto embarked on a journey from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, to Mexico City, where he started as a singer-songwriter. His passion for the arts later steered him towards acting, marking his TV debut on the 2009 Mexican series “Estado de Gracia.” His introduction to the American audience occurred through Kevin Williamson’s drama series “The Following,” starring alongside Kevin Bacon.
