Military Conniving With APC To Rig Bayelsa Election – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the military of colluding with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the rerun governorship election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

This was disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Sunday.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Saturday rescheduled the election in Southern Ijaw LGA to Sunday because of concerns over security.

Election in Southern Ijaw is particularly important in determining who eventually becomes governor, as it is the biggest local government council in Bayelsa.

The party had yesterday accused an Army major of spearheading electoral violence on behalf of the opposition, including allegedly killing innocent individuals.

According to Metuh, the PDP “hereby alerts all concerned that the APC and the military have connived to rig the elections in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.

“This rigging is being coordinated by the same Army Major who supervised the killings yesterday. The Major has handed most of the sensitive materials to APC agents to fill and return as results in the evening.

“Southern Ijaw local government area is the largest in the state and the APC wants to use this scheme to inflate result figures in favour of their candidate.”
