Ministerial List: Buhari To Oversee Oil Portfolio

1 Min Read

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his intention to keep the portfolio of petroleum minister for himself when he eventually forms his cabinet.

He made this known in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday while attending the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA.

“I intend to remain the minister of petroleum resources,” he said.

According to Buhari, a minister of state will oversee the day-to-day operation of the ministry.

This will not be the first time Buhari will oversee an oil ministry however, as he was appointed as a federal commissioner (equivalent of a minister) of petroleum and natural resources in March 1976 by the military government of General Olusegun Obasanjo.

His romance with oil also saw him equally made the inaugural chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in 1978.
