No fewer than 17 choice properties in Kano, Lagos, Abuja, Dubai and London have been linked to Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, who was recently arrested over alleged N80 billion fraud.

The Punch quoted an anonymous source in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as confirming the discovery of the properties.

The anti-graft agency  had arrested Idris earlier in the week in connection with alleged N80 billion fraud.

It was learnt that the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed suspended the embattled Accountant-General pending the conclusion of investigation against him.

The EFCC source was quoted as saying that the choice properties linked to Idris were purchased through proxies.

The source further said that the proxies would be invited for questioning.

It was learnt that the EFCC began to have Idris on its radar since last year following allegations that he offered huge sums of money to a family in order to secure the marriage of their 16-year-old daughter.

He was said to have told the teenage girl to go to Abuja and point at any building and he would buy it for her.

“He told the young lady to go to Abuja and choose any house she wanted and he would buy it for her,” The Punch quoted her uncle, Nuhu Bagudu as saying in an interview.

Also, Idris was said to have violated extant laws by his admittance of owning Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited, a company that was launched in 2021.

The EFCC is said to be working on a remand order for the Accountant-General as well as interim forfeiture of some the accepts traced to him.
