Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, passed away on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest the following day in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The unexpected loss of Mohbad has triggered a wave of allegations and speculations, pointing fingers at Naira Marley as a possible contributor to the tragic event, stemming from their previous fallout. Responding to these claims and threats he has received, Naira Marley, through his management team, issued a statement via his Instagram handle to set the record straight.
The statement began by expressing Naira Marley’s shock and sorrow at the loss of Mohbad, emphasizing their close bond and mutual respect. He went on to refute the accusations vehemently, asserting that he had no role, direct or indirect, in Mohbad’s death. The singer acknowledged typical industry frictions but stressed that they never escalated to the point of wishing harm upon one another.
Naira Marley stated his cooperation with law enforcement and authorities in the ongoing investigation, debunking the notion of evading responsibility. He affirmed that he had been out of the country since August 31, 2023, but was taking steps to return and assist the investigation with his version of events.
