Popular comedy skit maker, Abdulgafar Ahmad aka Cute Abiola has regained his freedom nearly three weeks after his arrest by the Nigerian Navy.

The Punch quoted Director of Information, Naval Headquarters, Commodore Suleman Dahun as confirming his release on Friday.

Cute Abiola, who doubles as a Naval rating, had gone missing on November 15, 2021, and his wife and friends raised the alarm.

The Navy later confirmed he was in their custody for “breaching the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and refusal to obey particular orders”.

It was learnt that the online comedian posted a video of himself in military uniform on social media, an act deemed to be in violation of the armed forces’ social media policy.

He was also said to have failed to show up when called upon to explain himself but only returned after the expiration of his leave on November 15, 2021, prompting naval authorities to put him behind bars the same day.

Dahun said Friday that Cute Abiola deliberately violated the armed forces’ social media policy and has been given the necessary punishment following his trial for misconduct and indiscipline.

He added that the naval rating has been released from detention to carry out his punishment.
