NBC suspends Channels TV for granting IPOB audience

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has suspended Channels Television and fined the station N5 million for breaching the broadcast code.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Acting Director-General of NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba.

According to the letter, Channels Television on its 7 pm live broadcast programme of Sunday, 25th April, 2021, allowed a leader of the proscribed IPOB to make secessionist and inciting declarations on air without any form of reprimand from the station.

Recall that Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful was interviewed on the station on Sunday.

NBC said that the station’s action contravened the provisions of the broadcast code.

The broadcast regulator further berated the station for allowing the IPOB leader to denigrate the Nigerian Army by making derogatory and false statements about the institution.
