The Federal Government says it will host hold the First Regional Centre for Disease Control Scientific Conference and Special Ministerial session in Abuja.

A statement signed by Mrs Boade Akinola, Director, Media and Public Relations of the Ministry, said the conference would be held on Aug. 9.

Akinola said the conference was organised in collaboration with the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Disease Control, African Field Epidemiology Network, Training Programmes in Epidemiology and Public Health Intervention Network (TEPHINET).

She said the theme for this year’s conference is “Enhancing Global Health Security through Field Epidemiology Training Programmes”.

It said the conference would discuss the progress and implementation of the 2001 Special Ministerial Dar es Salam Plan of Action for strengthening public workforce through Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programs (FELTPs).

It would also discuss current Public Health Challenges in the West Africa Region among other issues.

“Prof. Isaac Adewole, Minister of Health, would be the Chief Host of the event.

“He will be supported by other Health Ministers from the West Africa State, Centre for Disease Control, USAID, WHO and other stakeholders in the Heath Sector at the Conference,’’ she said.
