Health: Nigeria Has 1 Medical Doctor To 2,753 Patients – FG

Shakuri Kadiri, the Head Human Resources for Health, Federal Ministry for Health, has said that one of Nigeria’s health crisis is the proportion of 1 medical doctor to 2, 753 patients in the country.

 

He disclosed this statistic during the launch of the Nigeria Health Work Force Country Profile 2018, and handover of the Nigeria Health Workforce Registry in collaboration with the World Health Organization and other partners in Abuja on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020.

 

The profile which was read by him disclosed that the total number of registered medical doctors with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria is 74, 543, which gives a ratio of 36.3 medical doctors to 100,000 population in Nigeria, a ratio which further puts 1 doctor to 2, 753 population.

Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, also stated that the government has been putting efforts towards obtaining accurate data on the existing health workforce in the country to help facilitate human resource for health planning and thereby deliver efficient, effective and high-quality health services to citizens.
