Nigerian Based Americans’ Song About 419 & Fraud Goes Viral

An American based music group made of young Nigerian-Ghanaians, G4 Boys, @G4Boys, have produced a song and video about fraud and 419 which has gone viral in the US to the dismay of hardworking Nigerians in diaspora.

The G4 Boys are a New York based musical group made up of two brothers of Nigerian and Ghanaian descent, Ice Baby and Buggy.

The duo have developed a blend of trap and rap kind of music with topics focused on money, sex and violence.In the latest video, titled ‘419’ the duo glorify fraud, violence and sex.

They claim they always have money and are never broke because they can fund their lifestyle with fraud and 419.

In Nigeria, 419 is the criminal code for financial crimes and offences like fraud and obtaining money falsely through pretence.

Since 1999, Nigeria has struggled to redeem and maintain its image in the international community that it is a country that is averse to fraud and corruption.

With the establishment of two financial crime agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Nigeria has tried with some degree of success to nip corruption and fraud in the bud.

Angry reactions trailed the 419 video as glorifying fraud now seems to be a pop culture movement among Nigerians and other Africans in the United States.

Some people called the group shameless by openly admitting to defrauding other people, others called them ‘African booty scratchers), disgusting, horrible and trash music.
