Nigerian Students Deny Endorsing Ambode’s rival Sanwo-Olu

Sanwo-Olu Declared winner of APC Primaries in Lagos, Oshiomole Sanctions results

Nigerian students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has denied endorsing Sanwo-Olu, the anointed candidate of the leadership of the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position of Governor.

NAN disassociated itself from the purported report of endorsing Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governorship candidate of the APC ahead of incumbent governor Akinwunmi Ambode who is also seeking re-election on the platform of the APC.

The intra-party rivalry between Akinwunmi Ambode and Babajide Sanwo-Olu has almost torn the party into two with several purported loyalist of Governor Ambode suspended by the party for alleged anti-party activities.

The leadership crisis within the party prompted the leadership to shift its governorship primary elections from Sunday, September 30, to Monday October 1st.

NANS made its position on the governorship ticket tussle known following a report that a coalition of youth associations and student groups, under the auspices of Sanwo-Olu Youths and Students’ Campaign Organisation had expressed their support for the aspirant on Saturday.

Issuing a statement on Sunday in Abuja, the student umbrella body reiterated through its President, Mr. Danielson Akpan;

“NANS feels embarrassed by this act of impersonation as this goes to show the level of desperation of the characters involved in the act.

The attention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been drawn to a purported endorsement of Hon. Jide Sanwo-Olu as the flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the party’s primary scheduled to hold tomorrow.

NANS as an association is aware that primaries are on-going in various political parties and as a pressure group that is committed to the overall development of the country at large is studying the situation.

NANS will make its decision known based on the interest of its members, which is majorly educational development and rightfully direct them in fulfilling their civic responsibility.”

NANS further urged organisations as well as members of the public to be wary of individuals impersonating the Office of the President or any other officers of NANS to extort or defraud, especially at this political period.
