Oba Oyewumi regains freedom after a week in captivity

Oba Abiodun Oyewumi who was abducted a week ago from his palace in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State has finally been rescued by security agencies.

The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph stated that the rescue was due to the combined efforts of the military, anti-kidnapping unit of the Police and Directorate of Security Service (DSS).

The Oba was released at Gbelegun Village, a riverine community in Edo State.

There has been a little controversy over the ransom money and whether it was paid or not.

The kidnappers were reported to have requested for N40m while the Oba’s family only offered N500,000.

The monarch has been said to have been relieved to finally be free from captivity.
