The Ogun state Government on Wednesday banned auxiliary nurses from running health facilities across the State, saying they lacked the required expertise to do so.

Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, State Commissioner for Health, announced this during a tour of health facilities in Abeokuta South and Odeda Local Government Areas of the state.

Ipaye said the exercise was to ensure compliance with registration and re-validation of private health facilities.

He said the ban became necessary to guide against quackery and unprofessionalism in the health sector.

“This present administration will no longer condone activities of quacks as it endangers lives of citizens.

“Eight private health facilities have been shut in Abeokuta South and Odeda Local Government Areas.

“This is in addition to the 58 earlier shut for not meeting up with the deadline for re-validation and registration of their facilities issued by the State Ministry of Health since Jan. 2016”, he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the affected health facilities include Soffy’s Medical Center, Conner Stone Hospital, Omobalogun Clinic.

Others are Nosirullah Medical Clinic and Maternity Home, Olubusola Maternity Home, Ridiom Clinic and Maternity Home and Eriayo Maternity. (NAN)
